Jowar (sorghum) is a fiber rich millet that belongs to the grass family of poaceae, it is cultivated across the tropical and sub tropical regions of the world. Sorghum was originally domesticated in Africa around 5000 plus years ago and the cultivation has spread through the global over the centuries. It is a millet that is energy boosting as it has anti-oxidants phyto-chemicals, has calcium and iron that fortify the bone and strengthen immunity and high dietary fibre that regulates blood sugar levels. Across the world, jowar is the 5th most important cereal crop grown in the world and many countries are substituting for livestock instead of corn as it healthier. It is gluten free cereal and can be consumed by people who are sensitive to gluten, as per Ayurveda gluten free implies easy and light to digest and gluten free implies food without protein called gluten.
Svaguna’s jowar is cultivated as an intercrop between our fruit orchards in the monsoon season on our natural food forest in Vivavan situated in village of Amarwara in Chhindwara district of Madhya Pradesh.
