Flaxseeds (Alsi)

It is the seed from the plant Linumusitatissimu which means very useful in Latin, it is also known as linseed and is member of the genus Linum in the family Linaceae. It is one of the first plants to be cultivated in the world, evidence exists that it was cultivated 9000 years ago in either Egypt or Syria and then spread through Eurasia. India and China the cultivation commenced probably 5000 years ago. Flaxseeds are considered to be a super food and is prized for health protective properties being rich in protein and energy. Flaxseeds is known to be richest plant based source of Omega 3 fatty acids. Textiles made from flax is known as linen and oil as linseed oil. Flaxseeds are two types, either brown or golden in colour. It is a versatile ingredient as every part of the plant is utilised commercially either directly or after processing. It is used for textiles, oil, food, ropes, fishing nets, etc, etc, Before it got famous as a super seed it was primarily used to create textiles. Can be woven into linen whose fibres that are 2 to 3 times as strong as cotton.
