At Svaguna, we are working towards cultivating desi or heirloom seeds as these are better suited to the climatic conditions of the region, requires lesser water and are more pest resistant, hence easier to grow naturally. We grow Indian white corn or maize that is indigenous variety of the country and is non genetically modified but has lost its commercial value in the present times.
Maize is known as queen of cereals on account of is versatility as it has multiple uses across cultures and world. It is part of most cuisine across the world in some form or the other. It is a crop that can be cultivated in most environmental habitats and seasons.
Desi white corn is non modified corn kernels that are high in fibre, low in glycaemic index, nutrient rich, low in calories, gluten free and rich in anti-oxidants and don’t need much chemicals or fertilisers for its yield.
Svaguna naturally sundries the corn kernels and we then freshly ground the atta in small batches from dried corn kernels that are harvested post the monsoons thus ensuring the atta is always fresh and good to taste. Corn atta can be used as an alternative to wheat atta as it is gluten free especially with different types of saag during the winter months.
Svaguna’s desi corn atta comes from our white corn that is cultivated traditionally in our Vivavan farms that is free from chemicals, fertilisers, pesticides, etc. There is no added flours or colours to our atta, it is just dried corn that is ground into atta and is much healthier and tastier than the regular corn.
